About Us

is a small manufacturing operation located on the Northern California coast, near the tiny hamlet of Albion, in Mendocino County. This business grew from our long interest in history, especially Medieval European history, and all the trappings and accoutrements of that lost civilization.

Albion Works is owned by Tim Bray and Catherine Keegan. We developed our skills working with wood, leather, metal, and fabric as hobbyists, particularly as enthusiasts in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Our friends in the SCA know us as Viscount Colin deBray, Knight, Laurel, and Pelican; and Viscountess Ceridwen MacAodhegain, Laurel and Pelican.

After semi-retiring from careers in Environmental Engineering (Tim) and Systems Programming (Catherine), we turned our hobbies into a business. Now we endeavour to supply re-enactors, medievalists, and others with high-quality, well-researched and well-made furniture and accessories. We have a small but well-equipped woodshop, and an even smaller metal casting and fabrication studio.

Currently, we are focused on two product lines:

Custom work and new designs are an important and increasing part of our business. Please contact us if you have a specific interest in anything related to wood or metal!

What else do we do here? Work is frequently interrupted for "puppy breaks" to romp with Deja and Haken, our two young mutts. We also grow about 60 varieties of apples, mostly antiques and cider cultivars. Tim co-hosts a Celtic music program for a Public Radio station (KZYX). Tim also brews beer and makes traditional cider from our apples. When we think we can afford it, we go to Europe and look at museums for more stuff to make Some Day...
